The Cosmic Waltz: We Are Eternal Travelers of Time
Even at this moment sitting in your chair, we are sprinting through the universe thousands of times faster than a bullet. Exploring all rotations and orbits of the cosmos, from Earth's rotation to the immense flow of galaxy clusters.
1. The Illusion of Stillness
You may feel you are sitting comfortably reading this text right now. You might be drinking a cup of coffee and looking at the peaceful scenery outside the window. However, this tranquility is the most sophisticated illusion the universe presents to us. We are not still. We have never stopped for a single moment. We are travelers boarding the massive spaceship called 'Earth,' speeding towards somewhere at unimaginable speeds. Our senses just don't feel it, but we are swimming through a massive vortex of spacetime at this very moment.
2. Stage 1: Earth's Breathless Dance
Let's start with the most familiar rhythm. Earth spins on its own axis (rotation) at a speed of about 1,670 km/h at the equator. This rotation creates the symphony of light called day and night. At the same time, Earth revolves around the Sun at a wondrous speed of 107,000 km/h. This is about 30 times faster than a bullet. When we say "a year has passed," it means we have completed one lap around a massive elliptical track of 940 million kilometers orbiting the Sun. We haven't returned to the same spot as a year ago; we have stepped up one rung of time's spiral staircase.
3. Stage 2: Sol's Journey
Does the Sun stand still and command the Earth? No. The Sun is merely a citizen of a vast galaxy. The Sun rotates on its own axis with a cycle of about 25 to 35 days and revolves towards the black hole in Sagittarius, the center of our Milky Way, as if in worship. Leading the entire solar system, it orbits the galactic center at a speed of about 792,000 km/h (220 km/s). It takes about 230 million years for the solar system to orbit the galaxy once. This is called a 'Galactic Year.' When dinosaurs ruled the Earth, the solar system was on the opposite side of the galactic orbit from where it is now.
4. Stage 3: The Solar System's Helical Voyage
We grew up seeing textbook illustrations of a 'plate-shaped' solar system where the Sun is in the center and planets orbit on a flat plane. However, if we substitute the fact that the Sun is orbiting the galaxy at tremendous speed, the actual movement of the solar system becomes a three-dimensional 'Vortex' rather than a flat plane. It looks like the Sun is flying forward like a bullet, and Earth and the planets are chasing behind it, spiraling like a DNA helix. We are not circling in a closed circle in the same place, but drawing a corkscrew-shaped trajectory endlessly advancing into new cosmic space. The spot where you were born and where you are now are billions of kilometers apart in cosmic coordinates.
5. Stage 4: The Galaxy and Beyond (The Great Attractor)
Let's widen our view to our galaxy. The Milky Way, a massive city of stars with a diameter of 100,000 light-years, is also rotating. And this galaxy also flows somewhere. The Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy are rushing towards each other at 400,000 km/h, and the entire 'Local Group' to which these two galaxies belong is being dragged towards the Virgo Cluster. Furthermore, all these galaxy clusters are flowing like a mighty river towards a mysterious gravitational center called the 'Great Attractor.' This is the flow of the 'Laniakea' (Immeasurable Heaven) supercluster revealed recently. The universe is not a static space, but a feast of a massive dance where everything orbits everything.
6. Orbit: The Frequency of Time
Ultimately, what are rotation and revolution? They are the universe's way of measuring time. A small top spinning once becomes a day, a larger top spinning once becomes a year, and an even larger top spinning once becomes an Age. Orbit is the rhythm and frequency of time. The changes of seasons we experience, the tides, and even the birth, aging, sickness, and death of life are fractal pieces of this massive rotational movement. Spiral movement that seems repetitive but is never repetitive, ascending or descending through different dimensions. That is the essence of 'Flow.'
Conclusion: Where Are We Going?
No one knows where our destination is. We do not know if the Great Attractor is the end of the universe or an entrance to another dimension. But one thing is certain: we are not stopped for even a fleeting moment. Do not be anxious. Even when your life feels stagnant, you are advancing while emitting tremendous energy according to the providence of the universe. We are companions swimming together through vast spacetime, connected by the invisible string called gravity. So, just enjoy this dizzying and beautiful dance.
